Provide laboratory testing support for raw material, in process, and finished product for Avent Operations.

Job Description

This position is responsible for testing and controlling product or raw materials as required by established test plans and procedures. The scope of this position includes the ability to learn and perform all microbiology and/or chemistry tests conducted in the analytical lab following established test methods and documented procedures. The incumbent develops and executes simple test method and equipment validations.

The incumbent relies minimally on more experienced lab technicians or a supervisor to resolve procedural questions. The position requires correct documentation of all activities performed regarding lab testing and controlling nonconforming products and/or materials.

Production required activities include batching, mixing, spraying and encapsulating PYtest products.


Job Position Accountabilities / Expectations

1. Coordinate testing of in-process and finished goods, RM, stability, validations and special projects with emphases on quality, productivity and safety in a support role. Execute qualification protocols as provided by Scientists and or Engineers.

2. Support PYtest manufacturing as required.

3. Perform other laboratory and support tasks as assigned by the Team Leader, laboratory chemist or microbiologist.

4. Conduct environmental testing of the facility as required, including, but not limited to, water quality testing.

5. Report and document test results in accordance with established procedures in a timely manner.

6. Review test results to ensure that they are consistent with previous results.

7. Accurately and appropriately document work to maintain compliance with established documentation, good laboratory practices, and applicable industry standards and regulations.

8. Keep laboratory documents up to date to reflect current practices and quality standards including acceptance criteria for all raw materials, procedures, work instructions and forms.

9. Complete, maintain, and document Level II or Level III Radiation Safety Training status as assigned.

10. Capacity to learn, understand and apply standardized test methods and US Pharmacopeia for raw materials, in-process testing, and finished goods testing.

11. Communicate and implement corrections for issues of nonconforming documentation, procedures and specifications. Assist in the proper control and quarantining of nonconforming products.

12. Communicate effectively with the Quality, Operations, and Logistics teams on the status of received materials. Utilize effective communication in order to facilitate understanding with others.

13. Ability to learn and apply new test methods and equipment with little or no formal training. Ability to write procedures and work instructions to implement test methods and equipment changes. Ability to train other lab technicians on the operation of these methods.

14. Act as the Quality Engineer function for the laboratory.

15. Must be able to troubleshoot all applicable laboratory equipment.

16. Work in environment with exposure to chemical hazards, biological hazards, and radioactive hazards.

17. Work to foster an environment that motivates a diverse team to fully use its capabilities in achieving desired business results.



Qualifications: Typically this includes a high school diploma with seven to nine years of experience in a laboratory environment or a relevant manufacturing or quality environment; an associate’s degree in chemistry, physics, biology, or microbiology and four to six years of experience in a laboratory environment or a relevant manufacturing or quality environment; or a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, physics, biology, or microbiology and two to three years of experience in a laboratory environment or a relevant manufacturing or quality environment; experience with regulations applicable to a laboratory, medical devices and drugs. Proficiency in math and computer skills is necessary. A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, physics or natural science is preferred.
